Do you often skip meals hoping to kick start weight loss and control your calorie intake? I'm sorry to say it can be doing more harm then good...

It can actually lead to weight gain, insulin resistance and increased risk for type 2 diabetes!

So what is the problem and negative impact on the body?...

Overeating: not eating for a long period of time can lead to overeating at the next meal or later in the day. Your body will make up for energy and nutrients lost. You may find cravings go up as your body tries to get in missed calories.

Slows metabolism: your body goes on starvation mode when you skip meals or go too long without eating. Your metabolism slows down and conserves energy. Once you start eating again, your body will store most of the calories as fat for survivial.

Increase in blood sugar: fluctutations in blood sugar levels from skipping meals can impact the body long term and lead to frequent changes in mood and increased fatigue.

Tiredness: as your blood sugar starts dropping from skipping meals you may feel tired, brain fog, and even dizziness. Eating every 3-4 hours keeps energy levels up and fatigue down.

Stomach upset: an empty stomach is still producing acids and gas which can build up, leading to reflux or other GI challenges.

Try to aim on having 3 meals per day to keep your energy, metabolism, and body working properly! Focus on healthy, balanced meals to boost your nutrient intake. Skip the fad diets and learn to make long term lifestyle changes you can maintain for weight control and a healthy immune system.
